"Shoot the Puck!" – The Art of Stating the Obvious: A Hockey Parent's Guide

Greetings, hockey enthusiasts and sideline sages! Today, we're exploring a unique phenomenon in youth hockey – the art of giving advice that's so obvious, it's almost a sport in itself. Hockey parents are known for their passionate involvement, but sometimes, their coaching "tips" from the bleachers are more about stating the obvious than offering tactical insights. Let's glide through some of these classic, facepalm-worthy pieces of advice. (I am guilty of shouting a few of these on a regular basis.)

1. "Skate Faster!"
The age-old wisdom that somehow, magically, a player will turn into a speed demon upon hearing this.

2. "Shoot the Puck!"
A classic! Because obviously, the thought of shooting hadn’t occurred to the player with the puck.

3. "Pass it!"
Groundbreaking advice, considering that hockey is, after all, a team sport.

4. "Get the Rebound!"
As if the players were just going to let the puck bounce off the goalie and contemplate life.

5. "Stay on Your Feet!"
For those moments when players forget that ice is slippery and that staying upright is generally a good idea.

6. "Watch the Puck!"
A real eye-opener – and here the players were, planning to play with their eyes closed!

7. "Block the Shot!"
Because, clearly, the goalie and defense had planned on just giving the other team a free shot.

8. "Play Defense!"
Just in case the players thought they were all forwards today.

9. "Don’t Let Them Score!"
Revolutionary! It's almost as if the objective of the game wasn't already to prevent the other team from scoring.

10. "Use Your Stick!"
Who would have thought that the long piece of equipment they’ve been holding is for playing hockey?

And there you have it – a slice of the amusing, sometimes exasperating, world of hockey parenting. While these pieces of advice are as obvious as they come, they're a part of the charming tapestry that makes watching youth hockey so entertaining. Parents, we salute you for your enthusiasm and your uncanny ability to state the obvious with such conviction!

Whether you’re a player, parent, or just a fan of the sport, we hope this gave you a chuckle. Remember, in the world of youth sports, sometimes the most obvious advice is also the most heartwarming evidence of support. Keep shouting, keep supporting, and above all, keep enjoying the game! 🏒😉❄️🥅📣
